|
Cultivation of Laminaria Japonica (Phaeophyta) has been conducted in these 15 years at Hachinohe, Aomori Prefecture, to Produce sukidombu, rectangular dried sheets of Laminaria. Research has been carried out to produce strains of high quality and high yield for sukikombu. Two strains (one from Kodomari an the Japan Sea coast and the other from Ohma on the Tsugaru Channel coast both in Aomori prefecture) and a strain of Hachinohe were cultivated simultaneously at Hachinohe and compared with each other with respect to the blade size and quality. The results indicated that the blade shape of the two transplanted strains was not changed. Breeding experiments by selection were conducted from 1987 through 1989 for the first time at Hachinohe, and the amount of harvest increased 1.5-1.8 times that before.
