A Chemotaxonomic Study on Geographical Variations of Korean Fucales Plants 1. The analyses of pigment , phospholipid , neutral fat and inorganic polyphosphate

ABSTRACT |
The Fucales plants show very homogeneous taxonomic characteristics, but show great morphological variations at specific or subspecific levles. Through biochemical analyses of Korean Fucales plants, we tried to obtain many more taxonomic data than morphotaxonomical ones. Major pigments of Korean Fucales species were Chl. A, C1, C2 and carotenoid. But Hizikia fusiformis and Sargassum piluliferum were lacking Chl. C2 Carotenoid pattern was somewhat complex and varied with species. All of the Sargassum species had little phosphatidvl inositol, except for Coccophora langsdorfii, Coversely, the former had much phosphatidyl choline, but the latter had little. Moreover Coccophora had more various intermediate products of neutral fat than Sargassum. But in the case of genus Hizikia and Myagropsis the lipid composition was nearly same with that of genus Sargassum. Inorganic polyphosphate pattern differs clearly according to the genus. Myagropsis contained polyphosphate, and Hizikia contained pyrophosphate. And all the Fucales species contained abundant orthophosphate.
