| A Taxonomic Study on the Genus Scenedesmus in Korea (I)

|
Four species and one variety of Scenedesmus(Chlorophyta, Chlorococcales) in Korea were isolated and cultured in order to clarify and re-evaluate their taxonomic position. As a result, unicells were produced by the isolates of S. arcuatus, S. disciformis, S. ovalternus var. graevenitzii and S. pseudobernardii. Currently adopted diagnostic characters of the five taxa were considered relatively stable in culture. S. arcuatus var. platydisca and S. platydiscus were identified as a synonym of S. granulatus in culture. Cell arrangement in a coenobium of S. pseudobernardii varied significantly as the culture aged.
