ABSTRACT |
To test the possibility of mass production of the seedlings Codium fragile through vegetative reproduction and its totipotency according to the various culture conditions, this study dealt with regeneration and morphogenesis of C. fragile in laboratory culture. Utricles isolated from thalli developed into medullary threads, which formed prostrated clusters in the culture. Medullary threads were formed under a light intensity lower than 3,000lux and water temperature 10-20℃. A maximum growth of medullary threads was observed under 500 lux and 25℃ culture conditions. The erect thalli appeared one month after the beginning of culture and attained to 3~4cm in length after three months. Morphogenesis was observed under culture conditions higher than 3,000lux in light intensity and 10-25℃ in water temperature. Aeration was necessary for the perfect morphogenesis.
