Kyung-Je Cho
Department of Biology, Inje University
ABSTRACT
Diatoms of genus Aulacoseira collected in the Naktong River in Korea were examined with light and electron microscopy. Morphology of seven taxa are presented as follows: Aulacoseira ambigua (Grunow) Simonsen, A. ambigua morphotyp spiralis, A. granulata (Ehrenberg) Simonsen, A. granulata var. angustissima (O. Muller) Simonsen, A. granulata var. angustissima morphotyp. curvata, A. muzzanensis (Meister) Krammer, and A. subarctica (O. Muller) Harworth. Some Aulacoseira species have been misled in the taxonomic accounts or identification in this local area. A. ambigua would be recognized as A. italica (Ehrenberg) Simonsen or A. granulata for a long time and A. subarctica as A. distans var. alpigena by many authors. In addition, the spiral form of A. ambigua has been construed as A. granulata var. angustissim f. spiralis in the Naktong River. A. muzzanensis and A. subarctica are firstly recorded in the Naktong River.
