ABSTRACT
Seasonal variations of Aulacoseira population were monitored from 1991 to 1997 to elucidate the population dynamics in the downstream of the Naktong River. Seven taxa of genus Aulacoseira were identified. The Aulacoseira populations bloomed in spring and autumn, and declined in summer (August) and winter. Each species of genus Aulacoseira showed similarity in their seasonal variations and ecological status. However, viewed in detail, they showed a little difference in their variations. A. granulata (Ehrenberg) Simonsen and A. ambigua (Grunow) Simonsen were the most important species. A. ambigua (Grunow) Simonsen and A. subarctica (O. Muller) Harworth appeared earlier than the other Aulacoseira diatoms in March.
Key words: Aulacoseira, diatom, population dynamics, the Naktong River
