A Taxonomic Study on the Genus Cyclotella , Bacillariophyceae , in Korea Waters

The present study dealt with six Cyclotella species, C. comta, C. meneghiniana, C. michiganiana, C. pseudostelligera, C. stelligera, and C. sp. A, on the basis of their fine structure by means of light and scanning electron microscopy. Labiate processes, central strutted processes, marginal strutted rpocesses, spines, and a number of costae were examined in all species. Of these Cyclotella meneghiniana, C. michiganiana, C. pseudostelligera, and C. stelligera were new records to Korean waters. In addition, and attempt has been made to discuss several subgroups recognized in this genus.
