1. Copyright & License
All published papers become the permanent property of the Korean Society of Phycology (KSP). The KSP owns the copyrights of all published materials.
Permission must be obtained from the KSP for any commercial use of the materials. Every author should sign the copyright transfer agreement form (https://www.e-algae.org/authors/copyright_transfer_agreement.php).
This is an Open Access journal distributed under the terms of the Creative Commons Attribution License (https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/) which permits unrestricted, distribution, and reproduction in any medium, provided the original work is properly cited.
2. Peer review policy
Algae offers an online submission and peer review system at https://submit.e-algae.org/.
Algae reviews all manuscripts received. First, each manuscript is reviewed for its format and adherence to the aims and scope of the journal. If the manuscript meets these two criteria, it is then dispatched to experts in the field with relevant knowledge.
Once the manuscript is sent to reviewers, Algae awaits opinions from at least two reviewers. If necessary, a review of statistics may also be requested. The acceptance criteria for all papers are based on the quality, originality, and scientific significance of the research. Acceptance of the manuscript is based on the critiques and recommended decision of the reviewers.
Typically, an initial decision on a manuscript will be made within 5 weeks of its receipt, and the reviewers' comments will be sent to the corresponding author by email. The corresponding author is required to indicate, item by item, the alterations made in response to the reviewers' comments. Failure to resubmit the revised manuscript within 4 weeks of the editorial decision will result in the manuscript being withdrawn. The EIC will send the corresponding author the final decision on acceptance or rejection for publication.
All manuscripts, including those submitted by editors, employees, or members of the editorial board, are processed in the same manner as other unsolicited manuscripts. During the review process, submitters will not have any involvement in the decision making process. Editors will not handle their own manuscripts, even if they are commissioned. We do not guarantee acceptance without review, nor do we promise very short peer review times for unsolicited manuscripts. Commissioned manuscripts are also reviewed before publication.
3. Data sharing policy
Open data policy
To ensure accuracy and reproducibility of the results, the raw or analysis data will be deposited in a public repository after acceptance of the manuscript. Therefore, submission of this data is mandatory. If the data is already public, its URL or sources should be disclosed. If the data cannot be made public, authors can negotiate with the editor. Inquiries about data deposition should be directed to the editorial office.
4. Data archiving policy
The journal can be accessed without any barriers from the Korea Citation Index (https://www.kci.go.kr) or the National Library of Korea (http://nl.go.kr) even if it is no longer being published.
5. Preprint policy
A preprint is a version of a scholarly paper that is submitted before formal peer review and publication in a peer-reviewed scholarly journal. Algae allows authors to submit preprints, which are not treated as duplicate submissions or publications. However, authors are recommended to disclose the existence of a preprint with its DOI in the cover letter during the submission process to avoid plagiarism check programs flagging the results as containing excessive duplication.
The peer review process for a preprint submission is the same as for a usual submission. If a preprint is accepted for publication, authors should update the preprint site with a link to the published article in Algae, including the DOI. In their next submission to journals, authors are strongly recommended to cite the article in Algae instead of the preprint.
6. Advertising policy
Algae accepts advertisements on the following basis:
Eligibility of the advertised products or services
All products and services should be safe and reliable, and must not cause harm to the health and welfare of humans. Advertisements may promote information and technologies that are relevant to authors, editors, reviewers, and readers, which may include pharmaceutical products.
Orders
Individuals or organizations interested in advertising their products or services in the print copies of the journal or on its website are encouraged to contact the editorial office. The editorial board will review and discuss the acceptance of advertisements, with ultimate approval granted by the publisher.
Advertisement fee
For a single print copy issue, the price for a full-page advertisement is USD 1,000 (or KRW 1,000,000). If the advertisement is half a page, the price is reduced by half. For a quarter-page advertisement, the price is reduced by one quarter. The price for banner advertisements on the website is negotiable and dependent on the duration of exposure on the journal homepage. Typically, the price for web advertisements is higher than for print advertisements.
